About this publication

Unicorn Tapestry is an independent educational hobby publication operated by Tapestry Australia, part of GR Joinery (ABN 80 663 876 271), Australia. It collects, compares, and explains information from museum records, institutional publications, historical sources, and other researchers for general-interest readers.

Acceptance of these terms

By accessing or using this website in any way, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, your only remedy is to stop using the website. These terms apply to every visit, whether or not you register, subscribe, or interact with the site beyond reading it.

Good-faith research, not a guarantee

We make a good-faith effort to use reputable sources, identify uncertainty, and correct material errors. We cannot independently authenticate every object or verify every statement made by a museum, scholar, archive, image repository, external website, or other third party. Historical interpretations may change, sources may conflict, and this website may contain honest errors, omissions, or information that has become outdated.

The material is provided for general education and enjoyment. It is not professional advice and must not be relied upon as an authentication, provenance opinion, valuation, conservation plan, installation instruction, legal opinion, financial recommendation, or substitute for advice from a suitably qualified professional. Verify any important decision against primary sources and appropriate professional advice. By relying on any information on this site, you accept the risk that it may be incomplete, mistaken, or out of date.

Use of AI and automated tools

Some site content — including research assistance, drafting, summarisation, formatting, or image sourcing — may be produced or assisted by artificial intelligence tools or other automated systems. AI-assisted content is subject to human editorial review before publication, consistent with the good-faith standard described above. AI and automated tools, like human researchers, can make mistakes: they may misstate facts, misattribute sources, or generate plausible-sounding but incorrect information. An error introduced by an AI or automated tool is treated the same way as an honest human error under these terms — something corrected in good faith once identified. Use of an AI or automated tool does not create a higher standard of accuracy than is stated elsewhere in these terms, and does not itself create any warranty, guarantee, or liability beyond what is expressly set out here.

No warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the website and its content are provided without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranty of accuracy, completeness, currency, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, or non-infringement, regardless of whether the content was produced through human research, editorial judgement, or the use of an artificial intelligence or other automated tool. No advice or information obtained from the website creates a warranty not expressly stated in these terms. This section does not affect a consumer guarantee or other right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Publisher and editorial contact

The website is published by Tapestry Australia. Travis Reid maintains the site and is its editorial contact. A personal name identifies who readers can contact; it does not create a personal warranty, professional engagement, or separate contractual undertaking by that individual.

No personal guarantee by editors

Editors, maintainers, and named contacts act solely as agents of the publisher in an editorial or administrative capacity. Merely identifying an individual on a page does not make that person personally responsible for the publisher's corporate obligations, company systems, advertising, hosting, consent technology, privacy practices, or the acts or omissions of an independent provider. To the maximum extent permitted by law, no editor or contributor gives a personal guarantee concerning those matters, and no editor or contributor is personally liable for negligence, error, or omission committed within the ordinary scope of that editorial or administrative role. This does not exclude liability that applicable law imposes on a person for their own conduct and does not affect a right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Third-party services and sources

The website relies on independent services and sources, including Cloudflare for hosting, delivery, and security; Google services for analytics and advertising; third-party AI and automated content tools used for research or editorial assistance; museums and repositories for collection information and licensed images; and external websites linked from articles. Those organisations operate their own systems under their own terms and policies. A link, citation, or technical integration does not mean that a third party endorses this website or accepts responsibility for it, and does not create a partnership, joint venture, or agency relationship between the publisher and that third party.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the publisher and individual contributors are not responsible for outages, security incidents, policy changes, inaccurate third-party records, external content, or the acts or omissions of independent providers that are outside the publisher's reasonable control. We do not guarantee that an external link, service, or record will remain available, secure, accurate, or unchanged.

Advertising

Advertising may be selected, personalised, delivered, and measured automatically by Google or another independent advertising provider. The publisher does not create, pre-approve, or control every individual advertisement, advertiser, destination page, product, claim, or automated selection decision. Display of an advertisement does not mean that Tapestry Australia, GR Joinery, Travis Reid, or a contributor endorses or recommends the advertiser or its offering.

Visitors are responsible for evaluating an advertiser, its claims, terms, privacy practices, and products before interacting or purchasing. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the publisher and contributors are not responsible for third-party advertising content, advertiser conduct, targeting decisions made by an independent provider, or loss arising from a visitor's dealings with an advertiser. A concerning advertisement should be reported through Google's advertising controls and may also be reported to us with enough detail to investigate.

Image and intellectual-property rights

Historic artworks may be in the public domain while a particular photograph or digital reproduction has separate rights. The site therefore records the source and stated licence for locally hosted artwork images. Public-domain, CC0, and appropriately attributed Creative Commons or institutional open-access material may be reused according to its applicable terms. Australian copyright law also contains limited fair-dealing exceptions for particular purposes; their application depends on the facts and is not assumed merely because this is an educational hobby site. Third-party names, collection information, images, and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.

See the Image rights and credits page for the site's image-use records. No infringement is intended. Rights and licence information is checked in good faith, but repository metadata, institutional policies, and third-party records can contain errors or change without our knowledge.

Copyright and rights notices

If you believe material on the site infringes your rights or carries an incorrect credit, please first email contact@unicorntapestries.com so the issue can be investigated promptly. Include the affected page URL, identify the material, explain the rights you believe you hold, provide a reliable source or other supporting information, and include a way to contact you.

We will review a sufficiently detailed notice in good faith and may correct the credit, add licence information, restrict access, or remove the material while the matter is investigated. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the publisher and contributors do not accept responsibility for an honest and unintended rights-metadata error caused by inaccurate or changed third-party records outside their reasonable control. This process does not restrict any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be restricted. Notices must themselves be truthful; knowingly false, misleading, abusive, or impersonated claims may be rejected.

Reader responsibility and misuse

You are responsible for how you interpret, reuse, download, reproduce, install, purchase, value, or otherwise act on information or material associated with this website. You must check the laws, licences, museum or repository terms, product instructions, and professional requirements that apply to your own circumstances. A source image being available on this site does not remove your responsibility to comply with its stated licence when you reuse it elsewhere.

You must not use the site unlawfully, deceptively, to infringe another person's rights, to misrepresent provenance or authorship, to interfere with site operation, or to distribute harmful code. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the publisher and individual contributors are not responsible for loss caused by a visitor's misuse, unauthorised reuse, independent decision, or failure to verify information or obtain appropriate advice.

Indemnity

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the publisher, Tapestry Australia, GR Joinery, Travis Reid, and other contributors against any claim, loss, damage, cost, or expense (including reasonable legal costs) arising from or connected with your breach of these terms, your misuse of the website, your reliance on its content, or your infringement of a third party's rights. This does not apply to the extent a claim arises from the publisher's own conduct in circumstances where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.

Availability and changes

We may correct, update, reorganise, suspend, or withdraw material without notice. We do not promise that the website will always be available or free from technical faults, malicious interference, or data loss.

Events outside reasonable control

The publisher is not responsible for delay, interruption, or failure caused by events outside its reasonable control, including infrastructure or power failure, cyberattack, provider outage, government action, natural disaster, or widespread network disruption, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the website and its material are provided "as is" and "as available". The publisher excludes warranties that are not expressly stated and is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss arising from use of, inability to use, or reliance on the website or an external service, whether the underlying content was produced by human research and drafting, by an artificial intelligence or other automated tool, or by a combination of the two.

Where a guarantee, right, or liability cannot lawfully be excluded (including certain consumer guarantees under Australian law), but the law permits it to be limited, the publisher's liability is limited, at the publisher's election, to one or more of: re-supplying the relevant information or service; paying the cost of having the information or service supplied again; or, where neither is reasonably practicable, a payment not exceeding the total amount (if any) actually paid by you to access the affected content. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies a guarantee, right, remedy, or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. You submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria, and of the Commonwealth of Australia, for any dispute arising from or connected with these terms or your use of the website.

No waiver

A failure or delay by the publisher in exercising a right or remedy under these terms does not operate as a waiver of that right or remedy, and a single or partial exercise of a right or remedy does not prevent a further exercise of it or the exercise of another right or remedy.

Severability, entire agreement, and updates

If a part of these terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining parts continue to apply and the affected provision is limited only as much as necessary. These terms, together with any page they expressly reference, constitute the entire agreement between you and the publisher regarding use of the website and supersede any prior understanding on that subject. We may update these terms when the site, its providers, or applicable obligations change; the effective date identifies the current version, and continued use of the website after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

Corrections

We welcome well-supported corrections. Contact details are available on the Contact page. A correction request should identify the relevant URL, the statement at issue, and a reliable supporting source.
